Diabetic foot care

Diabetic Foot Screen and Assessment: People with diabetes should have their feet checked at least once a year by a podiatrist. Areas such as circulation, neurological status (nerves in the feet) and conditions that pose a risk to the healthy foot are assessed. Foot Care and Nail Care Advice and Education are given as part of a visit.
Callus & Corn Removal is important if you have an ‘at risk’ foot. Research has shown that the tissue under corns/ callus is much more likely to break down leading to an ulcer.Footwear and Sock advice will also be given. If you have difficulty getting a good fit in shoes I can help you get shoes designed for people with diabetes in mind.
I will Communicate with your GP where necessary, and with your agreement.
Appropriate Referrals: An important part of a professional health care service is knowing when and where to refer people when the need arises.
Biomechanical Assessment for Orthotics: People with diabetes have a need to be more careful about how their feet take pressure. Extra stress on an area of the foot can lead eventually to more serious issues like a foot ulcer. Sometimes expertly selected orthotics/ insoles can help
